Well this is my first walk of many i hope, some alone and some with family and friends. [/b]

This walk starts and finishes at Fairholmes visitors center Derbyshire uk. the walk takes in some fantastic scenery of Derwent valley - Ladybower and Derwent reservoir and beyond. The weather was a bit of a mixed bag, raining at times windy on the hills sunny towards the end of my walk and of course the hail storm (wish i had taken my hat as hale bouncing off your head isn't too great). I set off at 1200 passing Derwent reservoir dam which was overflowing due to recent rain. I followed a trail along the banks of derwent reservoir before turning into Hancock wood and had a small climb to make. then past Walkers Clough . The going was steep for a while. nothing too bad but not being fit found me wanting at times. The rest of the ascent to Lost Lad was ok but a bit on the muddy side.I had just about got to the top when a hail storm started, i got to the top and took shelter behind a mount of stones. Once it calmed down (15mins) and one cup of much needed coffee i set off for back tor which was not far, after admiring the views i then followed the trail to cakes of bread (fantastic rock formation) Dovestone tor, White tor and wheel stones (more fantastic rocks). Luckily my new boots did me proud by keeping the water and mud off my feet as the trail along derwent edge was muddy in places to say the least. Then made my way down the moor via High house farm to the banks of Ladybower reservoir, following a dirt track back towards my car. along this path i came across a notice board detailing the site of a village which was flooded to make way for the now Ladybower reservoir. fantastic days walk finished at 1600 approx with a well earned cup of tea!
